What is FOS?
The fructo-oligo-saccharides (FOS) ensure rapid establishment of the Lactobacilli in the upper small intestine and bifido bacteria in the lower small intestine. The source of FOS in the HMF super powder is from the whole freeze-dried apricot. The apricot is used for its soothing effect on the intestinal walls (and great flavor in the powders). If you experience excessive gas after taking this product, it is a sign that your microflora is out of balance and you need to keep taking probiotics. Yet, if you find the symptoms unmanageable, you can switch to HMF Intensive caps for 10 days which contains no FOS.
Where are the bacterial strains derived from?
Using laboratory procedures many years ago, hundreds of different bacterial strains were isolated from a healthy human intestinal wall sample. They were separated out, and each one was reproduced to make huge batches for testing via scientific trials. (Lab procedures only require one cell sample to reproduce large quantities for testing and production over the years). Research indicated that only four of the hundreds of available cultures were the beneficial strains with health promoting properties. These were the ones which held up strong during 15 years of testing, thus they were used as the probiotic strains in all the HMF products. HMF Super Powder 120g contains a 3:1 ratio of L. acidophius to Bifidobacterium, thus focuses more on upper GI distress, and also targets cells in the gyno-urino system.
HMF Super Powder is indicated for colds, flus, gas, bloating, indigestion, food poisoning, bacterial vaginosis, and fungal and yeast infections. Most notable is the critical role of taking HMF probiotics during and post antibiotic use which seriously damages the good flora throughout the body.
HMF Super Powder can help crowd out the yeast and other undesirable organisms which result from use of antibiotics, chemotherapy, oral contraceptives, and hormone replacement therapy.

Are HMF products shipped with an ice pack? No. But, after extensive product testing and new freeze drying technology performed by Genestra, it was concluded that the ice pack did not make a difference during shipping since the product potency was still well over 100% label claims when shipped with ice or no ice. The manufacturer states that it is no longer necessary to ship the HMF products with an ice pack for these reasons:
1. Genestra has added in 50% more probiotic than what the label guarantees per bottle. For example, HMF Forte is guaranteed to have 6 billion L. acidophilus per serving, but there are 12 billion present at time of manufacturing and it is kept frozen until shipping.
2. October 2004: The manufacturer has increased product stability again, allowing the probiotics to last up to 6 months at room temperature holding their GUARANTEED minimum potency on label!
3. You will receive your HMF probiotic directly from the manufacturer in about 3-5 days. This product is very fresh and has not been sitting around on our shelves. And, you are guaranteed it will contain 50% more than what the label states.
How do I travel with my HMF probiotics? We highly recommend you take your probiotics with you on all trips and vacations since their potency will last for up to 6 months at room temperature un-refrigerated. But, when possible and if convenient, we recommend you store your probiotics in the freezer or refrigerator, especially if you plan to preserve freshness of your product for months or years.
HMF Probiotics Shipping & Heat Sensitivity Info (06/01/08)
We suggest that you select 2nd Day Air or Overnight during the summer months or if you live in a hot state (any month). If not, your probiotics or suppositories may arrive 5-7 days later and may be warm or hot to the touch. We cannot replace or refund warm/hot packages.During the summer (June-Sep), we automatically do not ship out probiotics or other heat sensitive orders until the following Monday for any orders placed after 12 pm EST Tuesday. We will only ship orders placed on Wednesday or Thursdays if 2nd day or Overnight shipping is requested AND the package can be delivered in the same week. We do not ship heat sensitive orders on Fridays at all, any time of the year. What is the survival of HMF probiotics through the stomach? With over 90% survival in the full stomach (when taken right after a meal) and over 50% survival in the harshest environment of the empty stomach, the HMF organisms proved particularly robust and well adapted to the human stomach. This was in contrast to other probiotic organisms, which showed great sensitivity to gastric conditions and poor adaptation to the human host. This study also demonstrated that probiotics should be taken in association with a meal to ensure maximum survival.
The pH of the empty stomach is between 1.5 and1.9 whereas, due to the buffering capacity of food, the pH is raised to between 3.8 and 4.3 in the full stomach. The aggressive nature of the stomach acts as an excellent barrier to invasion by potentially pathogenic microbes. So, for probiotics to be effective, they must survive in high numbers under the same environmental stresses as would severely inhibit or eradicate other bacteria. The HMF organisms were compared with other probiotic strains for their ability to survive passage.

I was skeptical, however taking this consistently has cured a long-standing UTI that I just could not get rid of otherwise. Just be sure that you stick with it for a few weeks, and you will feel better. If you have an infection that you just can't shake, this certainly is worth a try.

I developed mild inflammatory bowel disease at age 18 and had it for 45 years. At the suggestion of a wonderful Chinese nutritionist and acupuncturist, I began taking HMF 5 years ago. My discomfort eased and my symptoms slowly decreased. Western medical tests show that I am disease free. I will take HMF for the rest of my life & consider it "a miracle". Another factor contributing to my recovery & continuing wellbeing is avoidance of nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, mild & hot peppers, eggplant).

I have been taking this product for over 4 years after spending many years on and off of antibiotics for strep throat and tonsillitis. Since I have been taking this product I have never been healthier. I went from long winters of sickness after sickness to almost no illnesses at all in a year.
